very = とても、という馴染み深い単語ですが、会話ではあまり使われません。very は少しフォーマルで形式的に聞こえたり、少し幼稚に聞こえたりするようです。
ネイティブたちの会話では以下の2つのパターンが多く見られました。

単語そのものにすでに very という強意を含む形容詞があります。代表的な単語には以下のようなものがあります。
very good とても良い
→ fantastic, great, excellent, wonderful, amazing, fabulous, superb, marvelous
very bad とても悪い
→ terrible, horrible, awful
very interesting とても興味深い
→ fascinating
very beautiful とても美しい
→ gorgeous
very intelligent, very smart とても賢い
→ brilliant
very open とてもオープンな
→ transparent
very honest とても正直な
→ straightforward, frank
very scared とても恐い
→ terrified
very angry とても怒っている
→ indignant, enraged, furious
very unpleasant とても不愉快だ
→ disgusting
very funny とても面白い
→ hilarious
very tired とても疲れている
→ exhausted
very hungry とても空腹だ
→ starving
very cold とても寒い
→ freezing
very hot とても暑い
→ boiling
very sad とても悲しい
→ miserable, devastated
very happy とても嬉しい
→ ecstatic, thrilled
very big とても大きい

これらの形容詞は会話でとてもよく出てきますので、発音ごと暗記しましょう。
※ 極限形容詞と呼ばれていて、文法上、他の形容詞と異なる例外の用法が適用されるなど、重要な単語です。

She is easy to talk to. She has good comunication skills.

4.「前もって支払いたい。」
I'd like to pay in advance.
→ I'd like to pay upfront.
5.「仕事を辞めた。」
I quit my job.
→I gave my notice.
6.「会社で昇進した。」
I got a promotion in the company.
→I moved my way up in the company.

1. hold your horses → 慎重になる、焦らず落ち着く
■ I think it's too soon. You should hold your horses a little.
「時期尚早だと思います。少し慎重になるべきです。」
2. let the cat out of the bag → (うっかり) 秘密を暴露する
意図的に秘密を暴露するというより、不注意でうっかりバラしてしまうというニュアンスで使われることが多いようです。
■ Please be careful not to let the cat out of the bag.
「バラさないように注意してね。」
3. quit cold turkey → 悪習慣をきっぱり(やめる)
■ I decided to quit drinking cold turkey.
「飲酒をきっぱりやめると決めました。」
4. have /get butterflies in my stomach → そわそわする、どきどきする
■ I always have butterflies in my stomach before a meeting.
「会議の前はいつもそわそわします。」
■ Her smile gives me butterflies.
「彼女の笑顔は私をどぎどきさせます。」
5. the elephant in the room → タブー、触れてはいけない話題
■ We need to talk about the elephant in the room.
「見て見ぬふりをしていることについて話し合わないといけない。」
■ The elephant in the room when you speak with her is about her ex-husband.
「彼女と話すときタブーなのは、彼女の元夫の話です。」
6. the world is one's oyster → 世の中は○○の思い通り、○○の可能性は無限大
■ You can do it. The world is your oyster.
「あなたならできるよ。あなたの可能性は無限大です。」
■ With a privileged family and brilliant career, the world is his oyster.
「恵まれた家庭と華麗なる経歴があったので、世界は彼の思いのままだった。」
7. the lion's share → ほとんど、大部分
一番大きな利益を独占している、うまい汁を吸っているいうネガティブな意味でも使われます。
■ The lion's share of the budget went on rent fee.
「予算の大部分は家賃に費やされた。」
■ She always takes the lion's share.
「彼女はいつもいいとこ取りをしている。」
